Drain Cleaner Instead of using Draino or some other product that is harmful to our environment, try this cheap and easy substitute first: Sprinkle 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain. Follow with 1/2 cup HOT vinegar. Glass Cleaner Use a mixture of 50% white vinegar and 50% water to clean your windows. The problem with commercial glass cleaner is that it emits ammonia mist, which you breathe. Ammonia is a poison that usually has no warning label. Disinfectants Use 1/2 cup Borax in 1 gallon hot water. This meets germicidal state requirements. The problem with most disinfectants is that they are filled with toxic chemicals including phenol, formaldehyde and ammonia. Some of the fumes can even escape through tightly closed containers. |

We all know that a lot of the stuff that we throw in our trash every day or put out on the curb every week ought to be recycled - or could still be put to good use by someone else. The trouble is, who's got the time to figure out where to recycle it? I had 3 old cell phones lying around for the longest time, just gathering dust. I knew I shouldn't just throw them in the trash, but I didn't have the time to figure out what to do with them. So instead, I just moved them from place to place around my house, trying to get them out of the way. Well here are some ideas for you to recycle, or let others reuse, all that STUFF. Surveys find that over 80 percent of Americans agree with the goals of the environmental movement. Sadly, most Americans admit to doing little more than basic recycling when it comes to acting on that disposition. What is the reason for this great divide between environmental sentiment in this country and individual actions? Author and environmental consultant Crissy Trask seeks to answer this question-and solve the disparity-with a new book that makes it easy to be an environmentalist, no matter how busy or hectic your lifestyle. This is a day to day guide with simple, practical suggestions that anyone can put into action. |
Ellen DeGeneres, Robert Redford, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Aniston, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Martha Stewart, Tyra Banks, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Tiki Barber, Owen Wilson, and Justin Timberlake tell you how they make a difference to the environment. |
